Simpleship CEO: Order management automatization and PoD will be a future trend
Simpleship Chief Executive Officer Justinas Jasilionis has stated that order management automatization and proof of delivery (PoD) technology will be a future trend. Speaking with Finbold.com, Jasilionis stated that this trend will be witnessed in several sectors like service delivery.
Jasilionis also talked about how the Simpleship product has positioned itself to fill the gap left behind by big players like DHL and UPS. At the same time, he talked about how PoD will evolve in the next few years.
Where did the idea of order management product with proof of delivery come from? What were the key inspiration and the driving force behind the idea?
“The idea came from our client who was not able to automate the delivery process with existing solutions on the market. Instead of creating a unique solution only for their needs, we decided to have a collaboration and try to build flexible, modern software available for every delivery company.
We believe that our gathered knowledge not only in software development but also in user experience and design allowed us to create products that help to handle and even automate our end-users daily tasks.
Also, we are striving to inspire businesses to become more sustainable by using digital documents hence saving tons of paper and resources in the long term.”
How has Simpleship adapted to the coronavirus pandemic considering that signing Proof of Delivery (PoD) tablets can potentially lead to exposure to the virus?
“Since delivery businesses are closely related to operating office buildings we had some additional time to rethink some of the features which already existed and establish the new ones by having online unmoderated interviews with our existing clients.
One of the features we had to adapt to the new market needs was a signature collection on the tablet screen which led to updating driver application which from now on gives the opportunity to deliver the product without signing it on the smart device but allowing to do so on our client zone later on.”
With proof of delivery rising, how long do you expect the traditional mailing business to be around?
“I believe that it is a matter of time when the delivery business goes fully digital. In order to be competitive in the delivery business, you need to find the solutions which allow you to save not only the resources but also bring customer satisfaction which is the key element between competitors.”
What are some of the main challenges have you faced in navigating the delivery automation sector?
“Mostly we heard from our research that existing solutions on the market were not functional and user friendly enough. The hardest challenge was to find the balance between a functional and user-friendly platform. We asked the question what is the point of the most advanced function on the market that will take time for our customers to understand and get used to?
By doing new functionality we always test the UI [User Interface] with our user base before releasing it to production which not only does it helps us to achieve the best experience but also saves hours to our customer. Our solution is built around our brand name Simpleship and we try to achieve it or improve it in every release.”
Proof of delivery has the potential of automating all aspects of the supply chain, how is this beneficial to companies?
“PoD brings transparency and control to your business. You do not need to guess where your drivers or products are during the day, your customer finds the delivery details, status and invoices in one place. They are able to order the new delivery straight from their client zone so it reduces the call time up to over 80%. Hence, it saves not only paper but also support resources that allow companies to invest in different areas of the company. It also allows us to predict how deliveries could differentiate by seasons with the help of our collected data and statistics.”
The Proof of Delivery sector is dominated by other big players like UPS and DHL. How does Simpleship’s PoD and delivery management software stand out compared to such big players?
“Our product started and continues with an enormous amount of research by trying to figure out what are the main pain points for the companies which were already doing the delivery. The research allowed us to create one of the most flexible and user-friendly delivery management software in the market because we have transferred our customer needs into existing software features. We continue to listen and develop the functionality which allows them to save not only time and fuel but also human resources which makes them more competitive in their own market.
Simpleship allows our customers to manage deliveries in the way they used to and not how the solution frames them. Since it is a cloud-based SaaS [Software-as-a-Service] solution we are able to give the most advanced delivery management and proof of delivery product today with the pricing of the delivery amounts.”
Which sectors do you expect to take the lead in embracing the Proof of Delivery technology and why?
“I believe it would be hard to distinguish a few sectors from the list, I would say it is more about the competition and market needs which commits companies to automate their delivery management process.”
What new trends can we expect from the proof of delivery sector within the next two years?
“We already see the pattern where companies, in order to ensure successful delivery and control over their own business, are willing to invest in technology. I believe that proof of delivery has a huge potential not only in delivery but also in the service delivery sector where companies could take the same benefits from our solution and bring more convenient experience to their end-customer.”
By facing high competition and obstacles during these years of development how did you and your team found the motivation and ambition to move forward?
“We strongly believe in our solution. In the ideation phase maybe it was a little bit different but now since we have established a customer base we could see the pain points we are solving every day. That’s the motivation for us.
I personally read and analyze every support ticket from our customers and include them in the available sprints so our clients can benefit from a new functionality as soon as possible.”
Do you have plans to integrate Machine learning integration in the Simpleship’s roadmap of 2020?
“Good question. We are already integrating a small bit of machine learning into products such as automatic delivery assignments for the driver. However, we have a much bigger ambition to fully automate the delivery process in the near future and the best thing is that we have control of that.”
